The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has surpassed its tax revenue target for the first seven months of 2025 by more than D2.1 billion, collecting over D15.6 billion. This announcement was made by GRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yankuba Darboe, during his appearance on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez on Monday, 11th August 2025.
According to the GRA CG Darboe, their target for January to July 2025 was D13.1 billion. However, by the end of the first seven months, “we collected over D15.6 billion. Giving us an excess collection of over D2.1 billion on top of the target that is set for January to the end of July 2025,” he revealed.
During the first quarter of 2025, GRA collected a total of D6.7 billion, setting a record for the highest tax revenue collected in a month. That record was achieved in March 2025 when GRA collected D2.6 billion, making it the highest monthly collection in GRA’s history, according to a publication made by Foroyaa Newspaper.
Moving into the second quarter and the first month of the third quarter, GRA continued its strong performance, increasing its revenue collection by over D8.9 billion to a grand total of over D15.6 billion raised in the first seven months of 2025.
2025 GRA Mid-Year Revenue Update
Providing a breakdown on the second quarter’s collection, GRA CG Darboe highlighted that in April, the GRA collected over D2.4 billion, exceeding the target by D401 million. Whilst in May, collections surpassed D2 billion, beating the target by D275 million. In June, revenues collected exceeded D1.9 billion, eclipsing their target by D250 million.
July, the first month of the third quarter of 2025, also recorded impressive results. GRA CG Darboe revealed that nearly D2.6 billion was collected, D522 million above the monthly target. All this, when added, brought the total tax revenue collected to over D15.6 billion raised in seven months.
The annual revenue target set for GRA in 2025 is D23 billion in the Approved 2025 Budget. Given the current pace of collection, over 68% of tax revenue has been collected in the first seven months, leaving 32% of tax revenue to be collected by the authority in the remaining five months of the year.
Highlighting their outstanding task for the rest of the year, GRA CG Darboe explained that from August to December, his institution is “supposed to collect D7.3 billion.” Dividing this amount equally by five months reveals that the GRA will need to collect an average of D1.4 billion every month to hit its D23 billion target for tax revenue this year.
Speaking on their record achievements during the first seven months, GRA CG Darboe noted that this did “not come out of the blue”. He noted that his institution engaged in a series of reforms, which include digitalisation that are now blocking leakages and bringing accountability and transparency to their work.
