Leading Junglers, Sanna Manjang, Nuha Badjie & Others Arrested in Casamance
Sanna Manjang arrested in Senegal
By Edward Francis Dalliah
The government has confirmed the arrest of Sanna Manjang, one of the most prominent former members of the Junglers hit squad and a leading perpetrator in the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission’s (TRRC) findings. According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, he was captured on Saturday, 29th November 2025, during a joint security operation in Senegal’s Casamance region.
The presser stated that the arrest resulted from sustained cooperation between Gambian and Senegalese security services. Manjang was arrested alongside fellow Jungler Nuha Bdjie and two others. The two Junglers have long been implicated in grave human rights violations committed under the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh, including torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings.
The TRRC identified Manjang and Nudha Bdjie as central figures in several atrocities, notably the 2005 killing of over 54 West African migrants. The defunct commission recommended their prosecution alongside other Junglers and former President Jammeh. Recommendations the government has publicly accepted and is working on the structures to implement.
According to the government, Manjang’s arrest marks a major milestone in efforts to deliver justice and accountability for victims of the former regime. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and security of all persons within the country, emphasising that The Gambia’s peace and stability “will never be compromised.”
The government further disclosed that arrangements are underway for Manjang’s repatriation to The Gambia, where he will be processed in accordance with the law. While circulating social media reports allege that his arrest is linked to a planned coup attempt, the government has issued no official confirmation.
It’s important to note that former President Yahya Jammeh, currently in exile in Equatorial Guinea, has made numerous pronouncements of his return in November. However, it’s not clear if his return is related to the arrest of Manjang and others.
Askanwi will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as new information emerges.
