The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has remanded one Tamsir Secka to Mile 2 Central Prison after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his younger brother, Musa Secka, with a cutlass, causing grievous bodily harm.
Musa Secka was said to be receiving treatment at the country's main mental health facility, Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, and according to the accused, he would sometimes leave the facility and return home.
The case was heard before Magistrate B. Sowe on 8th October 2026. Representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Corporal 6472 A. Badjie charged Secka with assault causing grievous bodily harm, contrary to Section 181 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on 21st September 2026 at Kanifing Estate in the Kanifing Municipality.
The prosecution told the court that Secka returned home from work at around 9pm. and was informed by his wife that his younger brother, Musa, was allegedly misbehaving in the compound and insulting people.
The prosecution said Secka confronted his brother, which resulted in a physical confrontation between the two. During the altercation, Secka allegedly sustained an injury to his hand and claimed that Musa had assaulted him with a knife.
It was further alleged that Secka subsequently took a cutlass and struck Musa on both his hands and legs, causing serious injuries.
The prosecution told the court that Musa shouted for help, prompting their younger brother, Pa Wally Secka, to intervene. Pa Wally reportedly found Musa seriously bleeding on the ground and attempted to assist him. However, the prosecution alleged that Tamsir then kicked them out of the compound and closed the gate.
Narrating further, the prosecution told the court that Musa was subsequently taken to the Kanifing General Hospital, where he remains under medical treatment.
Additionally, the court was also informed that Tamsir was also taken to the hospital while a complaint was made at the Kanifing Police Station and was subsequently called to the station.
It was noted that upon his arrival at the police station, Secka was cautioned and charged and admitted to the offence.
The prosecution tendered his cautionary and voluntary statements, together with the victim’s medical certificates, which were admitted in evidence and marked as Exhibits A1, A2, and A3, respectively.
After the facts were narrated, Secka admitted to the allegations. Magistrate B. Sowe then adjourned the case to 22nd October 2026 for sentencing and ordered that Secka remain in custody at Mile 2 Central Prison until the next hearing.
