The People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) was forced to adjourn its elective congress yesterday, 28th December 2025, to 24th January 2026 due to a lack of quorum. The congress would have seen a possible change in the current PDOIS leadership, spearheaded by Hon. Halifa Sallah, and a new PDOIS constitution; however, two-thirds of PDOIS delegates failed to show up.
Speaking to Kemesseng Sanneh, commonly known as Kexx, he revealed that the PDOIS Constitution requires two-thirds of the delegates present to make a decision. According to Kexx, PDOIS had “240 delegates that were registered. So, two-thirds of 240 should be 160 delegates [who] should have been present, but there were less than 160 by 17 members.”
Given the lack of quorum, Kexx explained that “we tried everything, tried to have those numbers, calling, reaching out to other people, but nothing succeeded. Others already left, so we end up suspending everything [adjourning] to 24th January, where we [will] make sure that all delegates are there so that we can have a majority decision.”

The postponement means that the current PDOIS leadership, called the Central Committee, spearheaded by Hon. Halifa Sallah and Hon. Sidia Jatta, will continue in their positions until the next elective congress in early 2026.
The current PDOIS Central Committee consists of 22 members and some of them are listed as follows:
Hon. Halifa Sallah – Secretary General, Hon. Sidia Jatta – Chairperson, Sam Sarr – Information Bureau, Omar Bem – National Mobiliser, Hon. Suwaibou Touray, Hon. Ousman Sillah, Alhagie Samba – Europe, and Jabou Joh – America, amongst others.
