BANJUL, THE GAMBIA, 1st October 2026 – The Gambia Reparations Commission wishes to inform the victim community and the general public about the current status of USD 2,507,911.73 (Two Million, Five Hundred and Seven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eleven US dollars and Seventy-Three Cents) recovered from the forfeiture and sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s Potomac property in the United States of America.

The Reparations Commission acknowledges the recent signed agreement between the Government of The Gambia and the Government of the United States of America concerning the transfer of these recovered proceeds to The Gambia. Under the signed agreement, the funds are intended to support compensation and reparations for eligible victims of the former regime under The Gambia’s reparations programme.

The recovered proceeds will be transferred to the Victims Reparations Fund Account. However, the Commission wishes to inform the victim community and the general public that the funds have not yet been received and the process is ongoing.

The Commission is awaiting the completion of the transfer process that will lead to the funds becoming available for implementation of the Commission’s reparations programme.

Once the funds are formally received by the Commission and lodged into the Reparations Fund Account, further information will be provided to victims and the general public on their utilization in accordance with the Victims Reparations Act, 2023, and the Commission’s mandate.

The Commission remains committed to transparency, accountability and responsible management of resources dedicated to the provision of transformative reparations to victims.
