Sombre Buba Jallow Appears Before Bundung Court in Ebrima Njie Murder Case

Buba Jallow, who is accused of fatally stabbing Ebrima Njie in Latrikunda German on 29th June 2026, has alleged that he was denied access to fresh air and prescribed medication while being held at Mile 2 Central Prison.
During his first court hearing, Jallow, a car mechanic commonly known as Buba J, hurled insults and showed his middle fingers to onlookers at the court, including members of the media and bereaved family members.
During his second court hearing, Buba's behaviour changed completely as he refrained from abusing onlookers and complained to Justice I. Janneh, claiming that he was denied adequate medical care and was not allowed outside to get fresh air.
Appearing before the Bundung High Court after his case was transferred from the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on 7th July 2026 for lack of jurisdiction, Jallow told the court on Thursday, 30th July 2026: “I am not permitted by prison officers to go outside for fresh air.”
He further alleged: “I have a prescription from the prison medics, but the prescription was taken away from me.”
Presiding over the hearing, Justice I. Janneh ordered prison authorities to ensure that Jallow receives his prescribed medication after the accused raised concerns about his treatment while in custody.
Appearing without legal representation, Jallow also told the court that he had been unable to contact either his family or a lawyer since his detention.
“I don’t have the opportunity to seek the services of a lawyer,” he said. The accused further alleged that he was wearing borrowed clothes because he had no access to his personal belongings.
Following Jallow’s complaints, State Counsel Drammeh informed the court that the matter was scheduled for mention and applied for an adjournment to enable the State to file a bill of indictment within a reasonable time.
After hearing both sides, Justice I. Janneh noted that the case had been transferred from the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and explained that the High Court could only assume jurisdiction once a bill of indictment had been filed.
She subsequently ordered the State to file the bill of indictment within 30 days. Justice Janneh also directed prison authorities to take the accused to the prison health facility for medical attention and, if his condition could not be managed there, to refer him to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The matter was adjourned to 21st October 2026 for further proceedings.
