Government Finalises Sale of 80% Stake in GAMCEL to YCell for D6.1 Billion
The Government has officially signed an agreement transferring an 80% ownership stake in the state-owned mobile operator, GAMCEL, to YCell, alongside a D6.1 billion investment to modernise the company's network infrastructure and business operations.
Although the agreement was signed last week, the deal for the total amount pegged previously at D6.7 billion appears to have changed since the Communications Minister’s parliamentary submission in December 2025.

Six Weeks After the President Established a Committee, Still No Suspension of PURA Data Price Floor
It has been more than six weeks since President Adama Barrow’s government established a committee to look into the D50 per 1GB data price floor introduced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) on 20th August 2025. A group of civil society advocates issued a statement calling for the government to act on the report which the Minister for Communications and Digital Economy noted was completed since 3rd October 2025.
