Jollof News journalist Mr Momodou Justice Darboe, who was scheduled to appear before Banjul Magistrate’s Court this morning, 20th April 2026, to face charges of common nuisance, has been postponed indefinitely.

Police allegedly charged Justice Darboe on 11th March 2026 with assaulting a police officer after Justice Darboe accused Senior Police Officer Abdoulie Sanneh of wrenching his phone from his hand for taking photos outside court.

Justice Darboe shared photos of injuries on his hands which he allegedly suffered from police officers who assaulted him for taking photos outside court.

After he was detained and released, Justice Darboe was then summoned a month later and charged with common nuisance last week, 15th April 2026, and ordered to report to police today, Monday, before being arraigned in court.

However, after Darboe reported to police this morning, he was informed that his bail has been extended to the following Monday, 27th April 2026, where he might be arraigned before a court. He was eventually released around 1pm today and told to report to the police next Monday without being arraigned in court.

Our reporter reached out to the Gambia Police Force PRO, Superintendent Musa Sisawo, to enquire if the case has been dropped or simply postponed. According to the police PRO Sisawo, the officers in charge are currently reviewing the case to determine their next action.
