The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region held its 54th Annual Regional Conference in The Gambia for the first time, under the leadership of their current president, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the Speaker of the National Assembly. As climate change continues to threaten coastal communities in The Gambia, a new initiative is empowering journalists to spotlight stories of resilience and survival. This week, 25 reporters from across the country gathered in Kartong for a five-day training workshop organized by the West Africa Coastal Areas Resilience Investment Project (WACCA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Gambia Press Union (GPU). The training aims to equip journalists with the tools to report accurately and ethically on environmental and disaster-related issues—bringing community voices to the forefront and countering misinformation that can cost lives. On World Consumer Rights Day, The Gambia joined the global call for sustainable consumer practices, emphasising the need for responsible consumption to address urgent environmental challenges. Organised by the Consumer Protection Consortium (CPC), the event focused on promoting eco-friendly lifestyles and protecting both consumers and the environment. More in the report.

In response to the call for climate action, the National Assembly's Select Committee on Environment, Sustainable Development and NGO Affairs, joined the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and partners in launching the Environmental Democracy project.

Youth-led association, Aims Forward Foundation has called on Gambian youths to take up more  responsibility and engage in community development as a way of helping the government in nation-building.
